Bali Art Festival 2009





Bali Art Festival is the yearly art event in Bali, which will be held in the next few months. Festival usually starts in June to July. Bali Art Festival was first started at 20 June 1979. It was held by the idea of Prof Ida Bagus Mantra, Governor of Bali at that time.
These years Bali Art Festival starts form June 13, 2009 to July 11, 2009. These are the 31th times this festival, taking the theme of "mulat Sarira" the glory of the nation and state.

Bali Art Festival has to be held every year to develop and to introduce the culture of Bali.The festival will also display the results of arts development as well as contemporary arts, but still rooted in the values of tradition

the festival take a place at Cultural Park (Taman Budaya) located at suburb of Denpasar. The building design shows a disinterment, preservation and development of art and culture. The Cultural Park was able to accommodate many activities inside
The Bali Art Festival intends to promoting Bali tourism industry and introducing the Balinese arts and cultures worldwide. This will educate other people to understand about the traditional cultures and performances.

Klungkung Regency

Klungkung is smallest town in Bali. It covers only 121 square kilometers and includes tree area islands. Nusa Penida, Lembogan and Ceningan. Its divided into 4 sub district namely :
1. Banjarankan
2. Klungkung
3. Dawan
4. Nusa Penida




Despites its size, its influence on Balinese culture has been powerful. Its was here, in the shadow of the holy volcano Agung, that priest and princes of majapahit continue the kingdom by setting up ‘keraton’ Samplangan, but within a couple of generation, they moved to Gelgel and then to Klungkung, in 1710. In the 16th century the Gods smiled on Gelgel when Dalem Waturenggong reached an impressive political and culture achievement to earn his ‘golden age’.

Place Of Interest
Kerta Gosa
is one of the famous tourism destinations in Bali and many visited by tourist everyday. Kerta Gosa is located in the heart of Semarapura town and it's name is taken away from a Sanskrit namely Kertha which is meaning Peaceful and Gosa from the Gosita word mean announcement. Thereby, the word's meaning of Kertha Gosa is a building of a kind Jurisdiction in form of Bale for the king who announces the legislation, jurisdiction, penalization etc. The building of Kertha Gosa is very unique and full of high art value so that this place is a unique place to visit in Bali.

The Regency of Badung,which has only 418.52 square kilometers of land, is divided into 6 sub districts. The total population of Badung Regency is approximately 280,000 people, with the average density of 672 people per square kilometer.

Jembrana Regency

Regency of Jembrana is located in the western of Bali, consists of 4 sub districts. This area covers more or less then 841.8km² with more less than 220,000 people its density 261 people of every km. Especially living of its society is agricultural sector like rice, water melon, vanilla, clove, buffalo, ox, chicken, fish of lemuru and prawn windu.
Sub districts:
1. Melaya
2. Mendoyo
3. Pekutatan
4. Negara




Negara itself doesn’t have many tourist site although its is famous for the bull races, held every year in October. Domesticated water buffalo race and horse race attract a number of tourists as well as many Balinese. Jegog – the giant bamboo gamelan(orchestra)-is typical of Jembrana and is seldom, heard outside the regency.

Places of Interest

West Bali National Park

This park is home to the rare Java deer, the rare Bali starling and many others animals such as Boss Javanicus, or wild bull.

Perancak
A small village in which Bali’s racing buffalo is performed for tourist. A reptile park and riverside temple are other Perancak sites.

Rambut Siwi
One of Bali’s major cliff-top temples and the largest in west Bali. It was built in 1500s.

Karangasem Regency

Regency of Karangasem with Amlapura as central is the largest town in East Bali, covering an area of 83,954 kilometres square. Karangasem itself consist of eight Districts. Namely:

Karangasem has an extraordinary variety of scienic landscape. Candi Dasa

Candi dasa is located in hilly bank, beside of the main road between Semarapura towns with Amlapura (Karangasem). In the center of Candidasa there is a pool which is wide enough, and from that place we can enjoy the beautiful view of the Lombok Strait. Candidasa own beautiful beach with the black sand along the coastal and the magnificence view of the ocean.

Tirtagangga
Tirta Gangga is a beautiful park with the huge water fountain and wide pond located at Abang Sub-district, Karangasem Regency in east part of Bali. Tirta Gangga Park is built in the year of 1948 by the Karangasem King of Anak Agung Agung Angluerah Ketut Karangasem.

Tenganan
Tenganan is traditional old village in Bali ‘Bali Age’ This tourism destination is visited for village with their traditional way of life unique traditional building, rural place far from modernization.

Puri Agung
Puri Agung(one the royal palaces) was built in 19th centaury by the first king of karangasem, Anak Agung Gede Jelantik. This tourism destination is visited for its unique architecture, which is the combination of Balinese, Chinese and European architecture.

Denpasar Regency

Denpasar city tour is a unique tour to visit Denpasar town with all is local society activities. Some other places of interest are also visited on this tour like Kumbasari traditional market, Jagatnatha temple and Bali museum.

Its one of the short tour in Bali, which takes around 4 - 5 hours. The tour will bring you to the unique places like traditional market where you can see the local society perform their activities in the market.

Traditional market
Badung traditional market located in main road, Gajah Mada Street, is the center of Bali this market cannot be discharged from the exiting market across Badung’s river called Kumbasari Market because the local society will fell their shopping experience would be incomplete without going there to the Kumbasari Market, especially for the Balinese who wants to buy their ceremonial items.
Kumbasari Market sells costume and clothing items at price relatively cheaper than clothing items sold at the shops in Gajah Mada Street which are mostly owned by citizens of Chinese clan. Kumbasari market was previously called Peken Payuk (Pot Market); sold such items as gerabah(jar like pot), jading(clay barrel), Cobek(clay plate), paso(clay bucket), caratan(clay water jug), penyentokan(mixer from clay), kekeb(riece cover) and other. All of these items are used as kitchenware and for ceremonial. Since this market are popular as a place to sell payuk/pot, hence Kumbasari Market in the past was referred to as Peken payuk or pot market.
The location of Denpasar Market is encircled by shops along the street of Gajah Mada. On the right side there is Sulawesi Street which is famous for textile. Denpasar traditional Market is progressively strengthening the identity of Denpasar’s economic center which is open 24 hour and is never silent or empty of visitors.
At traditional market, you will find transactions taking place between buyer and merchants with multifarious merchandise to satisfy life’s daily needs such as kitchen supplies, appliances required for Hindu ritual, fruit and traditional clothes. In this market you will see the local people, especially the women who carry extremely heavy items in a big basket balanced on their heads.

Jagatnatha Temple
Jagatnatha temple is the biggest Hindu temple in Denpasar town, which many Hindu people in Denpasar visit to pray, particularly on the full of moon and new moon. This temple is full of religious and artistic ornament. In the center of temple area, there is a high temple building encircled by the fertile tropical garden. From the entrance gate to the temple building you will find the Balinese decoration full of meaning to Hindu devotes.

Bali Museum
Bali Museum is located right next door of Jagatnatha Temple and in this museum you will find a loft of the ancient artifact of prehistory which have very high artistic value. The collection in this museum provides a different experience on your tour.

Bajra Sandhi Bali struggle monument
This monument is created in the middle of Denpasar civic center , Renon. It is symbol of Bali people’s struggle to gain independence after the Dutch Colonials retreated from this country. This monument immortalized the soul and spirit Balinese people’s struggle. It aims to take care of and develop and preserve the Balinese culture generations.
